Maytag Dishwashers Review
Maytag has been a heavyweight brand name in household appliances for more than a century and provides a selection of some of the best dishwashers. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many Maytag dishwashers to choose from anymore. As of the time of this writing, there are only four models available on its official website. Nevertheless, they have powerful cleaning tools, easy-to-use controls and high load capacities.
Maytag dishwashers can handle 14 or 15 full place settings in a single load. This is on the high end for the dishwashers we evaluated – lesser models in our review can hold as few as 10, and the average model can handle around 12. For an average American family, a dishwasher with a 15-place-setting capacity is more than big enough to clean all the dishes for the day in one wash cycle. If you’re from a smaller household, you may alternatively want to consider one of the best countertop dishwashers , to save on space and your energy bills.
All the Maytag dishwashers available today feature a PowerBlast cycle. This cuts through all stuck-on food on your dishes with high-powered spray jets, then it circulates steam throughout the washer to give your dishes that nice sparkle. This is nice, but conventional. Maytag lags behind the competition when it comes to innovative spray arms and wash options to get your dishes as clean as possible. If the sound of spray arms is appealing to you, check out the LG LDT6809SS , which uses brand new technology to cover all those hard to reach spots.
In addition to the PowerBlast, Maytag dishwashers offer a general array of wash cycles, including Auto Clean, Normal, Quick Wash and Rinse Only. They also come with some options to augment these cycles such as Heated Dry, Hi Temp Wash, Sani Rinse, PowerDry, 1-24 Hour Delay and Control Lock. While these options work well and can get your dishes clean, they’re standard fare. There’s nothing about them that make Maytag models stand out from the best dishwashers available.
When you go to the Maytag website to browse its dishwasher offerings, you’ll probably be disappointed by the lack of selection. There are less than half-a-dozen models to choose from, and they’re all very similar in size, capacity, function and price. You can expect to pay between $600 and $1,000 for a new Maytag dishwasher. These are okay prices, and they come with an excellent warranty period of 10 years, but there are other dishwashers we reviewed in the same price range that offer many more advanced and exciting features, such as the KitchenAid KDPE234GPS.
There’s nothing particularly wrong with Maytag dishwashers, but there’s nothing very compelling about them either. The most you can say is that they come with a PowerBlast wash cycle that gets your dishes cleaner than a normal cycle, but all dishwashers have something similar. You likely won’t regret buying a Maytag dishwasher, but you won’t be showing it off to your friends either.
